New book: Doing Social Science: Evidence and Methods in Empirical Research

Social scientists from the Universities of Southampton and Manchester have collaborated on a new research methods text ‘Doing Social Science’, which examines how experienced researchers tackle key methodological issues as they carry out their research. Looking critically at nine examples of recent research – ranging from studies of online gaming, goth subculture and soap operas through to prison violence, news interviews and time use – Doing Social Science provides a thorough yet accessible examination of how research is planned, carried out, recorded and analysed in real life situations. The book is jointly edited by the Methods Centre Co-Director Professor Sue Heath (Southampton) and Professor Fiona Devine (Manchester).
